Driverless Bus For The Future Unveiled

With so many vehicles on the road, it has become mandatory to look out for a system that ensures that you can escape the jams and easily reach you destination. Designer Alan Ponsford has designed a similar prototype of a driverless bus.

A small model of the bus or “pod”, developed by CapocoDesign and the Royal College of Art, goes on show at London’s Science Museum. This bus will be equipped with satellite navigation system, intelligent cruise control and onboard systems to control speed and direction and avoid hazards.

The bus will require special roads with embedded magnets that will act as markers for the bus and provide it with the datarelated to its exact positioning.

The most appealing part of the bus is that the passengers will use their cell phones to mark their destination and inform the bus to stop at the point they want to board the bus.

A prototype is yet to be tested next year in a closed environment and if the test goes successful the bus may come into operation with in next ten years. Its potential to drive itself will help to reduce the operating cost by 50%.

There is still a long time for it to come but iam sure the day these buses hit the roads they will very effective in cutting down pollution andcongestion problems.
