What’s in the Future of iOS 7 and iPhone 6

It's a no-brainer that the next version of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 7, is already under heavy testing at the Cupertino campus and so is the new iPhone 5S / 6.

But what's intriguing here is the future of iPhone and iOS and how Apple plans to gain more and more of the market share without opening up. The new iOS 7 will therefore be a very interesting update unlike any other iOS version to date.

No more Skeumorphic designs

As announced earlier, Scott Forstall will be leaving Apple officially this year and the role will be passed on to Craig Federighi will lead both iOS and OS X. (probably this means we will get to see more iOS / OS X integration). Also, Jony Ive, the design god at Apple, will take responsbility for human interaction design across all Apple products (software as well as hardware). It is important to note that unlike Forstall, neither Federighi not Ive seems to be fans of skeuomorphic designs so we may get to see a major change in design of iOS 7.

iOS 7 will be a major update

iOS 7 will be a major update as compared to any other iOS version in history, or at least we can hope so. iOS 6 was a disappointment to most and no more than just an incremental update. Android is catching up fast and it is time for Apple to think seriously about how it can sustain its ecosystem for long.

What about the new iPhone 6

The iPhone 5 came out with a major design upgrade so we are really not sure how iPhone 6 will be any different. Perhaps the usual, lighter, faster, thinner? Or perhaps Apple surprise the people in a whole new way, you never know.
